Take a Lead (S004) is an Enrichment Programme Unit for students who want to learn about leadership, activism and teamwork hands on.
This unit is also of particular interest to students who love to involve themselves in different activities, enjoy being creative and enjoy organising or helping out in different events.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- communicate more effectively and be part of an active team
- plan activities in a structured way, addressing the theme thoroughly and taking care of the necessary logistics
- understand better how to build community spirit through activities which can be of both educational and engaging
- engage in active citizenship through student activism in the political, social and community spheres
- use problem solving, creative thinking and communication skills to deal with planned and unplanned situations.

Further details
Students are expected to participate in the meetings and training sessions that are planned.
Students are to commit to actively participating in a number of College Led events (such as the Open Day, Wellbeing and Sports Festival, JC Conference, Freshers Week and others).
Students are to reflect on the activities they participated or created and submit feedback and learning points to share with the whole group.
Additional benefits
- This EPU can be used as the student's SOK Project subject to the approval of the SOK Coordinator/lecturer.
- Students will gain insight on planning large events, possibly make new contacts with external collaborators and continue building their social network.
Conditions
- Registration is through the online application form.
- Students are expected to show commitment to participate in the meetings and events. Should this not be the case, the student may be asked to withdraw from the EPU.
- This program would run from October to October.
- Group meetings and training will be held on Wednesdays or other free slots found by the team.
- Remaining hours depending on the events the students are participating in.
