Diversity Committee, Active Participation

Diversity Committee, Active Participation (S002) is an Enrichment Programme Unit for students who are interested in issues related to diversity, social inclusion, equality on the basis of gender, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, beliefs and so on. 


Learning Outcomes

By the end of this unit, students should be able to:

  • learn how to work as part of a committee of the Junior College 
  • learn how to work in a team with other students and with other members of the College in an informal atmosphere
  • increase their awareness and knowledge about many issues related to diversity, inclusion and equality
  • learn how to organise events both physically and online on diversity issues
  • learn how to conduct small-scale research about related issues
  • enhance their creativity and organisational skills
  • reach out to and support other students on issues related to diversity, inclusion and equality.

This will be determined during the first meeting as it depends on the staff and student timetables alike.

Further details

Students are expected to attend meetings and to contribute to the planning, organisation and carrying out of activities as agreed during meetings. Activities may involve awareness raising events, celebration of international days such as: International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), talks, films, and online activities amongst others. Additional benefits

  • May be used as part of SOK project subject to the SOK Coordinator approval.
  • Participating students will be giving a service to the College community especially to their fellow students.
  • The opportunity of engaging with the broader social community especially organisations from civil society with whom we sometimes collaborate.

 

Conditions 

  • Student registration is through a nomination and an interview. 
  • A maximum of two students may be accepted to form part of the Diversity Committee. 

 

Registration/Participation fees 

No registration/participation fees are required.
