JC Chess Club

JC Chess Club (K024) is an Enrichment Programme Unit for students who love the game of chess and its variants and for those who are interested in learning how to play the game of chess. 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this unit, students should be able to:

Further details

Students registered to this EPU must:

  • respect the JC Code of Behaviour at all times
  • be punctual, respectful and to observe norms and regulations…
  • fill in all documentation as required
  • be committed to the club and the sessions. 


The sessions shall be divided between: presentations on tactics and gameplay mechanics, friendly chess games with feedback, social events and team building, guest speakers and simultaneous exhibitions, tournaments and planning sessions amongst other possible activities.

The sessions are thought to follow this general schedule:

  • 1 x 1 hour introductory session
  • 10 x  30 mins Gameplay mechanics and tactics 
  • 10  x 1 hour Friendly Matches 
  • 12 hours  Event Organisation and Planning 
  • 2 hour evaluation/feedback/closure event 


Additional benefits

  • May be used as part of a SOK project, provided the SOK Coordinator agrees and all the sessions are attended
 

Conditions 

  • Minimum number of students to start the unit is 5. 
  • This club is open to anyone who would like to join.
  • The club shall start during first semester and come to a close in the second semester.
