Game Crafters Lab (K019) is an Enrichment Programme Unit for students who are interested in board games, board game design, storytelling and the gaming culture.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- analyse and evaluate different game elements to create engaging and challenging experiences
- develop a deeper understanding of game mechanics and the impact it has on the player
- understand the importance of prototyping, playtesting and incorporating feedback into their designs
- identify and solve problems by employing logical reasoning
- practice effective communication, active listening and cooperation as they develop and refine their game ideas
- gather information from various sources, evaluate its relevance and apply it to their game designs
- incorporate empathy into their design process and create games that are enjoyable and inclusive to all kinds of players
- effectively manage their time, prioritise tasks and stay organised throughout the design process
- learn how to handle losing a game.

Further details
Students need to be committed throughout the program, attending the sessions regularly and be an active part of the activities. The sessions are structured as follows:
- 1 x 1 hours - Introductory Session
- 3 x 2 hours - Game Mechanics
- 2 x 2 hours - Story Telling
- 2 x 2 hours - Game Design
- 2 x 2 hours - Prototyping
- 1 x 1 hours - Closure and Evaluation

Conditions
- A minimum number of 10 students is required to run the unit. The unit shall not take more that 50 participants.
- Registration is on a first come, first served basis.
- Students should show commitment by regular and active participation.
Registration/Participation fees
- A participation fee of €15 is required.
- There is also the possibility of a small rental fee of few euro or euro cents for certain board games. The details will be shared during the first session.
