By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
1 hour every fortnight
10 hours
To be decided during the first meeting.
Maximum marks possibly earned in this EPU: 5 marks
The students will discuss different types of literature that appeal to them. They will exchange ideas of why they like this literature and will also provide examples from their own readings. During most meetings, short stories, poems and other forms of literature will be discussed. Students can propose literature themselves and at other times the tutors leading the group give their suggestions. Readings are given from one session to the next and all group members come prepared with their ideas and opinions about that reading. During the meetings, everyone is allowed to air their personal opinions and critical observations. A healthy, informal and safe environment of critical debate about literature is created.
These sessions are ways how these students can express their love of literature in English in an informal atmosphere. Some sessions will be dedicated to members' own writings and they read them to the group to receive constructive feedback. Other sessions are dedicated to creative writing activities where all group members come up with their own contributions which they share with the group after the activity is finished. Group members are expected to come always prepared with the readings which would have been agreed upon, up to at least a week before they meet for the Book Chat Club.
No registration fees are required.
