The workshop entitled Creative Writing in English - the Personal Essay (C024) is an Enrichment Programme Unit for students who love creative writing.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- define the main characteristics of the personal essay and essayistic writing
- dompare and contrast the personal essay with formal and academic essays
- identify different essay writing methodologies
- experiment with using essayistic writing as a tool for personal reflection as well as for civic engagement and active citizenship
- write essays in a personal and individual voice
- edit their own essays as well as respond to feedback given on their written work.

Further details
Students will attend workshops as well as conduct independent research in between and after the workshops. They will also write and edit a personal essay and then improve their essay on the basis of feedback received from the tutor.
This unit shall follow this schedule:
- 2x 1.5 hour workshops
- 3 hours of research
- 4 hours dedicated to writing practice

- Minimum number of students required to run the unit is 10 and the maximum is 15.
- Students shall be enrolled on a first come, first served basis.
