A total of 8 sessions – 5 sessions are lectures in which syllabus content is covered, 1 session is a tutorial session in which past paper and tutorial questions are discussed and 2 sessions are practical sessions in which students will be performing experiments in the lab.
A total of 3 sessions per week. Some lectures will be replaced by tutorial sessions.
Ordinary Level knowledge of the subject and preferably be in possession of a Grade 3 or better is highly recommended. However, if a student is willing to work very hard this can be allowed after consultation with the subject coordinator. Knowledge of Chemistry and Mathematics is a great asset.
Knowledge of Biology at Ordinary level is an asset. However, a student will be allowed to study Intermediate Biology without prior knowledge.
Four papers form part of the Advanced exam. Paper I and Paper II are III hour papers and students are tested on all syllabus content. Paper I format consists of short questions and answers whereas Paper II consists of a comprehension and essays. Paper III and Paper IV are based on practical work with both papers being 1.5 hours long. Paper III is a written practical theory paper whereas Paper IV is a hands on practical paper in a laboratory.
One 3-hour paper is involved. This paper consists of 2 sections. Section A consists of short questions and answers whereas section B consists of structured essays.
The syllabus is spread over two years and we accompany our students to sit for the exam at the end of the two-year course.
